Nota Bene: "To conclude, we wish to protest the misrepresentation of the conference proceedings in the media, and make it clear that the majority of scholars in attendance—including all of the archaeologists and epigraphers who presented papers relating to the tomb—either reject the identification of the Talpiot tomb as belonging to Jesus’ family or find this claim highly speculative."

I see that Charlesworth is content to believe in Jesus Christ even if the resurrection of the flesh is a fiction. I don't know which creed he confesses, but mine doesn't draw a line through "flesh."

I've realized now, in reading the rest of the Time piece, that the bones were in each of the ossuaries of the "family tomb," so if this is Jesus' tomb, his bones are there.

Intense.

Now, the question is this: if 50 scholars meet in ten years and conclude that this is, in fact, the tomb of Jesus w/bones intact, which religion are you going to convert to? I'm thinking Judaism.

The first paragraph of the Time piece states:

When the Discovery Channel aired a TV documentary last year raising the possibility that archeologists had found the family tomb of Jesus Christ in the hills behind Jerusalem, it caused a huge backlash among Christians. The claim, after all, challenged one of the cornerstones of Christian faith — that Jesus, after his crucifixion, rose bodily to heaven in his physical form.

I'm confused, though. Why does merely locating the family tomb of Jesus' kin mean that he wasn't raised from the dead? Isn't it the bones of Jesus himself that would indicate that?

On another note, what's going to happen if Ole Jim thinks he's found Jesus' bones? Helluva way to end your career!!

Here's another article about the conference. It's rather more responsible than the Marketwire one:
